Cheap defence system that slows down enemies.

[]

About Barbed wire[]

Barbed wire can be used to slow the advance of enemies which gives your colonists more time to shoot them. This makes barbed wire particulary useful in combination with embrasures. It's cheap construction cost allow for the construction of large fields of barbed wire. Barbed wire will slow your colonists down aswell. And placing barbed wire too close together may cause pawns to ignore one tile of barbed wire. (So leave atleast one cell distance between barbed wire strips)

Use of barbed wire[]

Place it next to any walls or other objects that raiders may use for cover. Pawns can't stand on barbed wire, only walk over it, this way you deny them cover spots.

Because of the pathfinding of pawns, you can force them through traps and chokes by intentionally leaving gaps in the barbed wire. This will make the enemy clump up and be a nice target for machine guns, anything that burns, explodes or in between those two. Beware that your pawns will also prefer these routes if you allow them to scavenge the battlefield after a raid, this may cause them to trigger traps.

Notes for using barbed wire[]

Due to their low HP, (missed) explosives or IEDS can annihilate strands of barbed wire. As such, it is recommended to have the ''Destroyed buildings leave blueprints'' option enabled. This makes repairing the barbed wire after a raid less painful.

Be careful about where you place barbed wire. A field of barbed wire is useful and looks quite nice, but it will not take a side. It will slow down your combat medic carrying a wounded colonist or slow down a non-combat pawn running for the safety of your walls just as much as it will enemy pawns.
